Although not a cause of this disease, endometriosis is very much affected by diet and lifestyle choices. Anecdotal information tells us that certain choices can lead to the worsening of symptoms; these may be unique to some women, or fairly widespread. It is important to remember that no diet or lifestyle changes can “cure” endometriosis, however some have been shown to greatly reduce symptoms for women with this disease.
If you have endometriosis, or you think you may, many women describe “triggers” that induce painful flares. If you know what your triggers are, do your best to avoid them. If you do not, try to keep a journal of foods you eatand time of day or circumstances when you experiences flares. Some examples of triggers are:
- rigorous activity
- pelvic exams
- processed foods
